Your Future

Embracing sustainable practices and innovative technologies paves the way for healthier, resilient communities. By prioritizing eco-friendly infrastructure, green technologies, and sustainable urban planning, we create cities that ensure a prosperous, environmentally sound future.

20-21 NOVEMBER 2024 |  KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA

The Clean Cities and Urban Sustainability Forum 2024 is committed to advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, with a focus on Sustainable Development Goals 11 and 12, which emphasize creating sustainable cities and communities. According to a March 2024 WWF & UNEP report, 80% of marine pollution originates from land-based sources, primarily household and factory waste. In 2023, landfills released about 148.9 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent, making them the third largest source of methane pollution in Asia. Additionally, around 22,000 tons of pollution are released annually by open burning in Mumbai, including plastic waste that takes thousands of years to decompose. These issues contribute to coastal flooding, climate change, and negative impacts on aquatic life.

The forum will explore Malaysia’s commitment to achieving a national recycling rate of 40% by 2025, as outlined in the 12th Malaysia Plan, through technological innovations, community engagement, and policy reforms across the ASEAN region.

EVENT OVERVIEW

How It All Started

The Clean Cities and Urban Sustainability Forum (CCUDF) evolved from the Waste Management Sustainability Forums, expanding its focus to encompass broader urban sustainability challenges. Initially addressing critical issues in waste management, the forum recognized the interconnectedness of waste, urban development, and environmental health. This realization led to a rebranding and broadening of the forum’s scope, incorporating Sustainable Development Goals 11 and 12, and emphasizing innovative solutions for cleaner, more sustainable cities. CCUDF now serves as a comprehensive platform for discussing and advancing sustainable urban development practices across the ASEAN region.
